Materials are either floors or walls. Walls are generally used when constructing buildings, or when dividing cells. There is a wide variety of floors, but the wall selection leaves a lot to be desired. From the basic dirt to the expensive wooden, all floors have a set walking speed, and some can only be used indoors or outdoors. [[File:Materials_Menu.png|right|300px]]

Dirt is the material that makes up the ground of your prison. I suggest that once you have a considerable amount of money, you change it from dirt to something like grass, because dirt is unappealing, and doesn't look very nice.

Paving stone is a material, or flooring rather, that you can put down to make your prison look more attractive. It is a good idea to use it for your paths because of the high walk speed.

==Grass==

Outdoor Only

Often used as a decorative item, grass can be used for the outside floor of your prison. It adds a nice look to your prison, which it's dirt counterpart does not, except for a price.

==Gravel==

Outdoor Only

Gravel isn't what the floors of my prison would be made of, but oh well. It's for the people that really want a spice of uniqueness and difference in their prison.

==Road==

Outdoor Only

Road looks quite a nice floor for any prison. At a decent price of $10 per square, it is a cheaper alternative to wooden and ceramic flooring, whilst keeping a nice look.

==Stone==

::''Cost: $10 /sq''

:''Walk Speed: Normal''

Outdoor Only

Stone seems like a good floor for a beginner architect, or as temporary flooring, but for $10 per square, it does not surpass its rival flooring alternatives in looks.

==Fence==

Outdoor Only

It is useful to put a fence around your prison to stop your prisoners escaping. You should prioritise the fence's construction, and ensure that it is built before your first batch of prisoners arrive. If the prisoners arrive and there is no fence erected, your prisoners will most likely try to escape.

==Concrete Tiles==

Concrete tiles look quite good, I won't lie. For its price it seems a worthwhile piece of flooring.

==Concrete Floor==

::''Cost: $10 /sq''

:''Walk Speed: Fast''

Indoor Only

For a relatively uniform price of $10 per square, it is a decent option for your prison floors.

==Wooden Floor==

::''Cost: $50 /sq''

:''Walk Speed: Normal''

Indoor Only

Again, another flooring option for architects that have money to blow. The only problem is that wood is susceptible to being set on fire.

==Ceramic Floor==

::''Cost: $50 /sq''

:''Walk Speed: Normal''

Indoor Only

Ceramic flooring adds a nice touch to your prison, but for a hefty price. Recommended for architects that have money to burn, or just want to make their prison look incredibly attractive.

==Mosaic Floor==

::''Cost: $10 /sq''

:''Walk Speed: Fast''

Indoor Only

Mosaic floor is a good and quite interesting way to go when it comes down to flooring. The purple makes the mosaic floor stand out from all of the other floors, and it looks unique and cool. But it comes at an equally great price of $10 per square.

==Metal Floor==

::''Cost: $10 /sq''

:''Walk Speed: Fast''

Indoor Only

This seems like a good candidate when choosing the flooring for the areas around your cells and your holding cells. It also looks good as flooring to your other buildings, like the canteen, kitchen and shower area.

==Marble Tiles==

::''Cost: $10 /sq''

:''Walk Speed: Normal''

Indoor Only

Marble tiles, which look incredibly similar to that of Fancy tiles, look quite nice.

==White Tiles==

::''Cost: $10 /sq''

:''Walk Speed: Normal''

Indoor Only

White tiles are a relatively good option for those that want to give their prison a classic feel. Or for those that have a fetish for the colour white. Either way it is a good choice for architects on a budget.

==Fancy Tiles==

::''Cost: $10 /sq''

:''Walk Speed: Normal''

Indoor Only

For players that want to give their prison a personality, and a bit of uniqueness. This flooring option is for people who want to differentiate their prison from the stereotypical dull and dusty one.

==Concrete Wall==

::''Cost: $50 /sq''

The concrete wall is one of two choices of types of wall that you can pick from. Often used to divide cells, and for the walls of buildings.

==Brick Wall==

::''Cost: $50 /sq''

Like the concrete wall, the brick wall is usually a common building material for players of Prison Architect. It is regularly used as a divider between cell, and in many other ways.

==Demolish Walls==

The Demolish walls button is used to demolish unnecessary or unwanted walls.
